How Scripture strengthens, renews
neurological pathways
“When you understand how
neural pathways are created in the brain, you get a front row seat for truly
comprehending how to let go of habits. Neural pathways are like superhighways of nerve calls that transmit
messages. You travel over the superhighway many times, and the pathway becomes
more and more solid. You may go to a specific food or cigarettes for comfort
over and over, and that forms a brain pathway. The hopeful fact, however, is
that the brain is always changing and you can forge new pathways and create new
habits. That’s called the neuroplasticity of the brain.” Quote by Marilyn
Gordon
“The Creator of the brain gave
mankind a neurological handbook—the Bible. To live new lives we just have to
embed its truths into our daily thinking.”
Quote by Sam Black
I guarantee you God is not afraid of
man finding out that something He said isn’t
true. Whether it comes to archeological
digs or studies of human makeup, what man will discover will match up to His
word. The tomb or temple will be found
just as it is written in His word and the anatomical findings will confirm the
ancient wisdom written on scrolls written thousands of years ago. The deeper science goes into the study of the
human brain, the more evidence is uncovered to prove Him absolutely credible.
If you are interested, there are
numerous books and studies about what happens inside the brain when exposed to
the word of God.
Here is one example of what can take
place in the brain. Addictions change
the brain, and repeated use of the substance or stimuli will create new
pathways that alter the brain pattern.
The good news however, is it can be reversed and the damage repaired by
no less than hearing and learning Scripture.
God’s word is medicine for the soul.
And I’m
not talking about your hour trip to church on Sunday, either. I’m talking about your daily bread. Sitting down on your own time, even if it is
for five minutes a day, and studying, pondering, meditating and memorizing
Scripture until you know that it has sunk into you. The world will offer you many quick fixes but
true lasting change can only come with partnering with the Holy Spirit and
letting Him lead you on the ride of your life!
This stuff is not boring in the least; it is only the greatest joy ride
you can ever be privileged to go on.
Considering that most of the main characters in the New Testament gave
their lives up for the Gospel, there had to be a huge payback to make that kind
of investment. As the song goes, “To
step out of my comfort zone, into the realm of the unknown, where Jesus is.”
I have personally been changed by the
Word of God and I want the same for you.
He has transformed me into someone who is bold and courageous, who has
faced many giants and will continue to do so.
Underneath the surface He has removed insecurities and given me a new
vision for what is yet to be. I’m excited for what 2017 has to bring and also surrendered
to go home if He should call me. It has
been hard, but oh, so worth it. The only
way to get here is to walk it out, baby step, by baby step. I’m not saying I’m
complete, but I know the One who is, who walked it out before me and showed us
the way.
What do you want in 2017? Same old, same old? Okay.
That’s fine. But just
maybe, just maybe your spirit inside you is craving so much more than the quick
fixes from the world.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able
to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
